As we celebrate eight decades of innovation, Grayhill embraces this milestone as a catalyst to strengthen our commitment. We are more determined than ever to create enduring enhancements in human-machine interaction.
Our mechanical encoders embody our innovative philosophy by combining the sturdy feel and construction of our signature rotary switches with a digital output. They provide an economical way of obtaining Octal, Binary Coded Decimal, Hexadecimal, and Gray Code output from a rotary switch. As always, each mechanical encoder can be customized to meet the exact criteria for our end users.
One advantage that mechanical encoders have over other encoding methods is that the code can be generated without active electrical components. This requires much lower power consumption, making it a great fit for battery-powered devices. Also, because the design is passive, it will have nearly zero electromagnetic emissions and can be designed to have almost complete electromagnetic immunity. Another advantage to the passive nature of the mechanical encoder is that it can survive high-voltage electrostatic discharge much better than active encoders. Overall, it’s an excellent choice when electromagnetic compatibility is critical.
